My Grandfather used to wood-chip carve on his front porch in the evenings. As a small boy I remember watching him squint as the sun set over the mountains till finally it was too dark for him to see any longer and he would grumble and wander inside.

I always thought that when I was just a little bit older I would sit on his lap and he would teach me how to make those same careful cuts. Unfortunately he passed away before I had the chance.

All of this had passed from my memory until recently at a doctors visit my Doctor told me that if I didn’t find a way to relax at night my heart would give out. Suddenly the image of my Grandfather sitting on his porch every night flashed through my mind. I decided I need to learn how to wood-chip carve.

After a brief local search I finally turned to the internet for instructions on how to begin. I watched youtube and bought booklets and nothing really had the information I needed. Finally I found a professional wood carver that said he could teach me, and even better I wouldn’t have to fly to his remote cabin in Nova Scotia to do it!

He wrote the book I was looking for. It started out so simple all you need is a box cuter. Well when I first got the book I poured over it’s pages and within 15 minutes I was Wood Chip Carving

There were wood shaving all over the living room floor and my wife was furious but deep down inside me I felt that connection to my Grandfather. I was a little boy again sitting on his lap.

I started to carve up everything I could. Old kitchen chairs lost their legs, broken picture frames were slashed at, I even whittled a broken wooden spoon into a candle. Albeit not very creative I was reliving my childhood dream of knife whittling.

The Legacy left by my Grandfather was alive again and I owe it all the that book about Knife Whittling

Now the you know the history, let me share with you the instructions I received, instructions the every pocket knife whittler should know:

Just Start

That’s it! He told me

“Your going to get cut until you figure out how not to get cut. Your going to screw upuntil you figure out how to fix it. Your going to shatter every small piece you start till you figure out how to not do that. The key is KEEP GOING.”

And really that’s all you need to do, get a chunk of wood (the softer the better) and a box cutter… and of course bring your Band-Aids!

Creating own stamps is an attracting idea. Not just for kids and teenagers, but also to adults, or even business mans. Why? Self made stamps can be roughly divided into two categories, depending of their usage and depending of process of stamps making.
Usage of self making stamps can be: as home made stamp, for decorative and funny purposes, like own stamps for wedding, or own stamp for kids playing. Another and more serious usage is as regular postage stamp. You can’t make your stamp and send postcards or mail using them, but you can design own stamps on your PC and then send file to company that are licensed for creating official stamps from users, for this you would pay something like $10-$20 and then when they send you printed stamps that You designed, then those stamps can be used in postal traffic as all other postage stamps.

According to technology used to create own cheap customized stamps, we can say, that there is also two methods for that, one is classic, using rubber and another one is modern in which you will use materials as photo polymer.

I will explain you how to make inexpensive custom made stamps with modern technologies and modern material, what is more inexpensive and easier than dealing with classic rubber. What you need to make your fist stamps is: PC, printer (ink jet or laser, laser is better), few sheet of paper and cheap commercial photo polymer, which you can buy for less than $10 in local hobby or craft shop.

When you prepared all of those material and equipment you are ready to go. First you need to design on PC, using photo shop or some other drawing software, your future personal stamp in 1:1 ration. When you are done with stamp design, then you need to use software filer to create black and white negative. I know that this sounds to you maybe as rocket science, but in any drawing software, this is actually just one click, you find that option and just click and your stamp image will be converted into its negative. Now, when have your negative you are on half of a way to have own stamp. Next and last step is to use photo polymer, you will put printed image of stamp that you created above a commercial photopolymer sheet that you bought in local store, and you will expose to light according on instructions on polymer package depending of its manufacturer.

After that follow procedure from manufacturer, but usually you will need to wash piece of polymer that you exposed with water until you see clearly your new stamp. After that, dry stamp and it is ready for usage.

During a time, that was my hobby, and after few years I have many various kinds own my own stamps, for example there is classical stamps with my signature, stamp with harts for letters send to my girlfriend, stamp which i made for my younger sister with bear and some other funny animals to sign birthday party tickets, then there is a stamp with some of my favorite laptop manufacturer, etc.
Also, i have some real, postage stamps, which I purchased from Zazzle, they made them when I sent my drawing and made payment. Can you image how good joke can be when you have own postage stamp, and sent your girlfriend letter with that stamp?

A topic not much discussed in articles concerning bead craft is what I like to all “optional equipment.” Understandably, most bead craft articles focus on the beading ideas, or the beads themselves and various discussions revolving around patterning, color selection and so forth, but at least some attention should be given to the optional items of equipment, because they can make your life easier and enhance your enjoyment of bead craft in general.

The items I have in mind are:

Fishing Line
Magnifying Glasses
Cord Knotter
Bead Tray

I’ll outline what each of these can do for you as it relates to bead craft below.

Fishing Line – If you’re all out of silk thread and needing to crank out a bead craft project, simple fishing line can be subbed in for the good stuff. Or, if you’re only making a temporary piece and want to save your silk thread for permanent creations, again, fishing line to the rescue! No bead craft toolkit should be without it!

Magnifying Glasses – This handy item will save you both time in all your bead craft projects, and prevent eyestrain by bringing those tiny little pieces-parts into better focus. What’s not to like about that! If you only get one piece of optional bead craft equipment, get these!

Cord Knotter – At around ten bucks, this handy little item is the most expensive of the “optional bead craft equipment,” but well worth the money, especially if you do any work at all with pearls. It assists with knot tying, and helps you get the knots right up against the beads, where you want them to be (this can be a frustrating process when trying to get it right by hand). It might take a bit to get the hang of using it, but once you do, you’ll wonder how you and your bead craft projects got along without it!

Bead Tray – Funny how something as simple as a tray can make such a big difference to your bead craft projects, but it really can! The main advantage of a bead tray is that it comes with grooves for holding beads and the grooves are of standard shapes and sizes! So, when you’re making a necklace, simply play with your pattern on the bead tray, get it just how you want it, and then all your beads are already laid out in the exact pattern. Simply pick ‘em up and string!

Again, while none of the items mentioned here are absolutely essential, you’ll probably find that you enjoy bead craft a good deal more with these time saving devices, and you can pick up the whole set for around $25. A small investment indeed for what they can do to improve your bead craft experience, and the ways in which they can help you execute against your beading ideas!

Throughout the year we celebrate special occasions with our good friends and loved ones.
We watch little ones grow, celebrate birthdays, weddings, fun holidays and capture each memorable moment with a photograph to keep forever.

Some of us may store these photographs in a simple envelope, photo album, scrapbook, or in a traditional box of keepsakes, while others may happily display them around the home or work.
As the years go by, those memories become more and more valuable and safe storage is very important, so that the captured memories really can last a lifetime.

One of the best papers to use for storing, decorating, sending or displaying photographs is Japanese Washi and Chiyogami paper.

The traditionally made washi uses purified water and natural plants and fibres which makes it acid free. This not only makes it the best paper to use for storage and protection, but also offers a lovely look and texture to compliment photographs, rather than overtake them.

There are fine and delicate washi that allow light to pass through it. This creates a very lovely “angelic” look when framing a photograph. All you have to do is cut the paper at least 2 centimetres wider than all the sides of the picture and secure it to the back so that the excess juts out as a frame. Once that is complete, place it on a window or safely in front of a light source, such as a tealight or lamp.
Other types of washi are thicker and have varied textures that can add a bold compliment to images.

To protect all of your pictures, even if they are stacked in a box, simply place one sheet of washi between each photograph, then wrap one long sheet over the entire stack and tie with a string.

Japanese chiyogami paper is fantastic for decorations since it’s carefully painted with an array of stunning colours and patterns. The colour selection for chiyogami paper is unbelievable and durability can’t be beat. Even though it’s as light as a feather, it can be used like fabric, even when wet.
Covering or decorating storage boxes, picture frames, envelopes and using it as scrapbooking paper truly adds a special touch and shows how important the photos are.

If Chiyogami seems like it’s “too flashy” to use in great amounts, try using it as a touch of colour.
One very simple way is to cut out shapes or silhouettes( animals, flowers, objects etc…) and attaching them to neutral washi paper or directly onto plain picture frames, photo albums , boxes, and even the photos themselves.

One thing to remember is to make sure to use acid free adhesives when attaching the paper directly on the photographs. If you are still worried about adhesives, try simple origami. There are thousands of origami folding techniques that can be done simply to make lovely add-ons for decoration, without using glues or tape to attach them on. Search online for keywords like “origami page marker” or “simple origami decorations”, this will give you endless ideas as well as step-by-step instructions.
The page markers are my personal favourite since they are simple and add a sweet touch.

No matter which of the multitude of bead craft ideas I’m pursuing, I regard patterning as the single most important aspect of the hobby. A good pattern can cover a multitude of other bead craft design sins, and good crafters will spend a lot of time fiddling with their patterns to get them just right.

In this article, I’ll take a brief look at two sources of inspiration for your bead craft pattern ideas that you may not have thought of. Consider this an experiment in cross discipline thinking, and it is my hope that when you read these words, your mind will immediately start turning on the subject, and a whole boatload of OTHER ideas will fall into your lap. Even if that doesn’t happen though, this is still a ward against the bead craft equivalent of “writer’s block.” So here goes:

Poetry
Any poem that’s not free verse has a rhyme and meter to it. Haiku’s structure is 5-7-5. Iambic pentameter has its own rhythm, and so forth. There are a multitude of rhythms to choose from, and inspiration is as close as your nearest volume of poetry.

Take the haiku example. You could construct a pattern around the haiku rhythm, 5-7-5. An arrangement of 5 beads. A different arrangement of 7, and then back to five. Repeat this around your necklace (or bracelet, or whatever) and you’ll have created a “haiku bead craft necklace.”

Or if your favorite poem has a funky rhythm like

a-b-b-a
b-c-c-b
c-d-d-c
(repeat)

You could organize a bead craft pattern around that (each letter represents a different element) to striking effect. And, your bead craft project will have an interesting story surrounding it!

Sheet Music
Another excellent source for inspiration to enhance your bead craft projects is sheet music. Assign one bead element to each note and place according to whatever song you select.

As you please, either ignore sharps and flats or add wholly new bead craft design elements for them. Start with something simple. Design a “Mary had a little lamb” necklace, playing with the elements until you’re happy with the results. Again, an off beat way of looking at the topic of patterning that can enhance the execution of your bead craft ideas in unexpected ways!

*Note: You’ll probably only want to focus on one line of the sheet music in your bead craft project, les you create something much too big to be useable! Note too that pattern and medium can, and often will, influence one another! What may work well with semi-precious stones might not be as viable with a wood/metal mix, so there’s definitely a bit of experimentation involved! The main thing, regardless of where your inspiration comes from, or what form it ultimately takes, is to stick with it! Persistence and experimentation will almost always win the day!

The topic of soap making legislation regularly appears very daunting for the individual and many people are put off starting their own soap making business as a consequence of this. However, the whole process is nothing more than a paper trail to confirm that your whole melt and pour soap making process, ingredients, recipes and soap are safe. If there are any issues, they can be traced back to you and if necessary to a particular ingredient or batch. It is basically an audit system.

The legislation is not there to trip you up or catch you out, but merely to protect you and the consumer, i.e. your customer. It’s not enough to just know how to make soap, you just need to show that your products have been produced from a safe recipe, with good quality, reputable, safe ingredients, in a suitable environment. You need to be able to ensure, and to confirm that you have not knowingly used any process, or ingredients which could cause any hurt or side effects to your customers.

To meet these requirements you must to provide evidence that you used a consistent method and recipe, using the appropriate ingredients, in a clean and hygienic environment. You need to provide the following information about your ingredients:

- Details of Supplier
- Batch number of ingredients
- MSDS Sheets
- Chemical Analysis Sheets
- Gas Chromatography for essential oils
- IFRA certificates for fragrances

Each and every one of the above show that your ingredients reach a safe standard for cosmetic use.

You will need to provide your recipe, which will include ingredients, quantities and the method used to make your soap. You will need to demonstrate that you consistently adhere to a Good Manufacturing Practice and you will have to supply details of this practice.

You will need to create a Quality Control System which will include a tracking system so that if anything goes wrong you can go back and identify precisely when the soap was made, what ingredients were used and which suppliers you got them from. This will enable you to check all the other soaps that were made in the same batch to make certain there are no issues with them.

When you have done all of the above you have to to create a PIP – a Product Information Pack. This will contain all of the above information and will have to be submitted to a chemist who is qualified to certify your soap. For a fee, he or she will give you with the necessary certification for your soap. He or she will be able to inform you about all aspects of the certification process, so it is worth contacting one early on in the process as support from them could save you a lot of time and energy. A lot of this information exchange can be done by email these days, saving you time.

You will also need to label your soaps, describing your ingredients in the proportions in which they are included in your recipe, starting with the largest. The ingredients must be listed in INCI format. INCI stands for International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients and is an Internaional naming system which standardises the names so that they are internationally recognised. The requirements for exactly what information you need to show on your labels changes from every now and then, so it is advisable to discover what the up to date legal requirements are before designing your labels and sticking them on all your soaps!!

Trading Standards also oblige you to sell soap by weight. There are two ways to do this – by average weight or by minimum weight. You should talk about this with your local Trading Standards Officer because some favor one method, and some the other. You need to display the weight either on the bar of soap itself, or at the point of sale. This means that if you want to sell your soap by the slice, you can, for example, display the price by the 100g and then cut off slices, weigh them and charge accordingly. Otherwise you can precut and wrap your soap and price it individually.

You must use accurate measuring scales for this. Digital kitchen scales are not considered accurate enough for this, so it is something to discuss with Trading Standards how best to do this.

You will typically find that if you talk to your local Trading Standards Officer, they will be only too willing to help you, as they like people who want to adhere to the law and they should be able to point you in the proper direction to fulfill the requirements.

Two more things that I’ve listed last, but are very important. You must never make any therapeutic claims on your products. You can only do this if you have scientific research to back up your claim!! There are many descriptive words you can use to sell your products, without making claims. It is worth discussing this issue with your cosmetic chemist because they can advise you.

You will also need to get some public liability insurance in case anybody has a reaction to your product, or, if you are having a physical sales point, rather than selling over the internet, you need to be covered in case someone injures themselves at your shop or stall.

So, when you have completed your paperwork and submitted it to the chemist, you can have fun wrapping and naming your products, so that you are ready to get going as soon as your products have been certified. ..<a href="http://www.yourblogsite.com/"target="_blank"> Yourblogsite.com – Blog Links..<a href="http://www.couriersrus.com/"target="_blank">Courier Directory..Theblogcatalog<a href="http://www.theblogcatalog.com/"target="_blank"> Copy & Paste Articles

Halloween is quickly arriving and, by the way, the time for decorating. When it relates to homemade decorations, it is doable to craft Halloween decorations from simple items you have lying around the house. Those recycled Halloween decorations are amusing for the entire family and bring the fun to Halloween.

Create a Halloween Snowglobe

A Halloween Snowglobe can be produced from an old glass jar, small plastic insects and small stones, beach glass or false small gems. To create this Halloween ornament, just fill the jar with Karo syrup and add the small stones, beach glass or false small gems and plastic bugs in the jar. The top of the jar can be sealed in place with some silicone caulking in order to not have the liquid escape from the container. When the caulk has dried and the top of the container is secure, the Halloween Snowglobe will be viscous and creepy for all those who want to shake it up.

Recycled Halloween Spider

The egg carton is some other easy source for recycled Halloween decorations. You can make a spider out of an egg section. Simply cut out the egg section and paint black. For the legs, make four small holes on the lateral sides of the cups, insert chenille stems in each hole and stick or glue them to the cup. Paint on white eyes. After punching a hole in the center of the egg cup, use fishing line to string up the recycled Halloween decorations through the home. In case these decorations are the be hung outside, it is crucial to spray the whole spider with transparent varnish.

Another Halloween Symbol: the Bat

You can also make a bat out of an egg carton. Rather than using just one egg cup, this bat needs 3 cups in a row. The two outer cups need to be cut down to resemble the wings of the bat. Paint and decorate the cups to look like a bat and hang up using fishing line.

Crafting recycled Halloween decorations is a cheap way to observe this creepy holiday. Many decorations can be produced from used items. Extra simple recycled Halloween decorations include lit pumpkins, lights, tree decorations. Kids can produce all of these ornaments with the help of an adult.

Now that you have got several recycled Halloween decorations, it’s time for you to go preparing your future Halloween party. And wherever you require help on how to do it, remember that I’m here to help; come visit My Happy Halloween and see our collection of Halloween home made decoration ideas.

Stitching Machine Reviews
Stitching Machine Reviews have been helping the stay at home mom as well as the large commercial business buying agent find the best sewing machine for their money. There are such a lot of products on the market today that it is vital to bother to read about sewing Machine Reviews and do some homework before spending your hard-earned money on one of these machines. Bernina Activa Sewing Machine

Stitching Machines History
These machines that sew have gone thru quite the revolution during the past decade. At one time, particularly in the 1950’s, it would be hard not to get a house with the lady of the house, stitching everything from clothes to dish rags, to bed sheets. Times have changed today and the quantity of girls who basically know how to stitch is decreasing. However [*COMMA] the use for stitching machines has also changed from saving money by doing repairs at home to more of past-times and crafts. It is this change which has brought plenty more makers on the market today with different features and this is also why it’s so necessary to do your review research to be sure you are getting the right machine for your wishes. Viking Sewing Machine Reviews

Reviewing stitching Machines
You are the only one that will really review what the best machine would be for your wishes. Before you start, right down a catalogue of things that you’re going to be using your new toy for. For example, will you be sewing just cotton/cloth or will you be sewing more complicated fabrics such as leather or even silk. The sort of material you’ll be sewing makes more of a difference than you may think when buying a home machine to use for stitching. Also think about how big of projects you will be attempting and how often you’ll use your new machine. Cost for something like this have a very good range so its good to consider how many hours a day, week, year you’ll actually stitch. If its going to be quite often, it may make more sense to get one of the higher end machines because you will get your money’s worth out of it. Singer Sewing Machines

Summary
When trying to review assorted sewing machines it is important to come clean with yourself and actually establish what you’ll be sewing and how frequently. There are a large amount of websites on the Net today that can aid with product reviews. Another choice may also be to visit a store and talk to a pro sales associate which has years of expertise. If you do the research, you will more likely end up with a product that you are happy with for years to come. ..<a href="http://www.yourblogsite.com/"target="_blank"> Yourblogsite.com – Blog Links..<a href="http://www.couriersrus.com/"target="_blank">Courier Directory..Theblogcatalog<a href="http://www.theblogcatalog.com/"target="_blank"> Copy & Paste Articles
